A knee cap, also called a knee support or knee sleeve, is a soft, stretchable support worn over the knee. People wear one for walking, gym sessions, everyday warmth and extra comfort during activity. This guide compares the three knee caps KneeBolt makes, so you can choose by fit and use.
What a knee cap is and is not
A knee cap slips on or wraps around the knee and gives light compression and warmth while you move. It is a comfort and support accessory. It is not a medical device and it does not replace advice from a doctor or physiotherapist.
Which knee cap should you choose?
Adjustable knee cap (free size)
The KneeBolt Adjustable Knee Cap wraps around the knee and closes with velcro straps, so you set how snug it feels. It is made of breathable neoprene and stays in place when you walk or climb stairs. Choose it if you are unsure of your size or like to change the fit from day to day. One free size suits men and women.
Extra-long knee cap
The KneeBolt Extra-Long Knee Cap covers the lower thigh down to the upper calf. The black fabric is soft and stretchable, and the longer cover keeps the knee area warm. Choose it for walking, wearing at home and cold days.
Compression knee cap
The KneeBolt Premium Compression Knee Cap is made of 3D-knitted breathable fabric in a skin-toned colour that is hard to notice under clothes. It gives light compression through the day without restricting movement. Choose it for daily wear, walking and light sports.
Quick comparison
- Adjustable: velcro straps, free size, breathable neoprene
- Extra-long: lower thigh to upper calf, black, stretchable fabric
- Compression: 3D-knitted breathable fabric, skin-toned, fits under clothes
How to get a good fit
A knee cap should feel snug but not tight. Follow the size guidance on the product page, and if you notice numbness, tingling or a change in skin colour, take it off and loosen the fit or stop using it.
How to wear and care for it
- Pull the knee cap on over the knee, or wrap and fasten it, so it sits centred on the kneecap
- Check it has not slid down after a few minutes of walking and adjust if needed
- Wash and dry it as described on the care label so the fabric keeps its stretch
When to see a doctor
If you have knee pain that lasts, swelling, or an injury, speak to a doctor or physiotherapist before choosing a support. A knee cap is an everyday accessory and not a treatment.
